BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine the face, convergent validity, internal consistency, and stability reliability of the impact on participation and autonomy-Persian version (IPA-p) scale for using among Iranian patients with type 2 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Trained experts interviewed 227 type 2 diabetes patients who were registered in out-patient Diabetes Clinic of Ali-Ibn Abi-Talib Hospital, (Rafsanjan, Southeast Iran from May 2018 to February 2019) and their relatives to assess the face and convergent validity, internal consistency, and stability reliability of the IPA-p scale. A checklist was used to collect demographic information and also to record expert's̛̛̛̛̛̛ points of view about the scale to assess face validity. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's alpha, and stability was assessed using interclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Test-retest method was used to detect the reliability of the questionnaire. Respondents completed the IPA-p scale on the two occasions with an interval of 30-45 days. RESULTS: In relation to convergent validity, the confirmatory model showed an acceptable fit and the scale had a highly convergent validity. Exploratory factor analysis showed that the IPA-p scale has a ten-factor structure that explained 77.42% of the variance. Cronbach's alpha between the mean IPA-p scores achieved on the two occasions ranged from 0.65 to 0.92. Test-retest ICCs for the ten domains were between 0.64 and 0.81. CONCLUSIONS: The IPA-p questionnaire can be a relatively valid and reliable instrument for assessing self-reported participation among Iranian type 2 diabetes patients. However, some improvement is needed to make it fully suitable for using among Persian-language diabetic patients.

Introduction: Center of pressure (COP) parameters are frequently assessed to analyze movement disorders in humans and animals. Methodological discrepancies are a major concern when evaluating conflicting study results. This study aimed to assess the inter-observer reliability and test-retest reliability of body COP parameters including mediolateral and craniocaudal sway, total length, average speed and support surface in healthy dogs during quiet standing on a pressure plate. Additionally, it sought to determine the minimum number of trials and the shortest duration necessary for accurate COP assessment. Materials and methods: Twelve clinically healthy dogs underwent three repeated trials, which were analyzed by three independent observers to evaluate inter-observer reliability. Test-retest reliability was assessed across the three trials per dog, each lasting 20 seconds (s). Selected 20 s measurements were analyzed in six different ways: 1 × 20 s, 1 × 15 s, 2 × 10 s, 4 × 5 s, 10 × 2 s, and 20 × 1 s. Results: Results demonstrated excellent inter-observer reliability (ICC ≥ 0.93) for all COP parameters. However, only 5 s, 10 s, and 15 s measurements achieved the reliability threshold (ICC ≥ 0.60) for all evaluated parameters. Discussion: The shortest repeatable durations were obtained from either two 5 s measurements or a single 10 s measurement. Most importantly, statistically significant differences were observed between the different measurement durations, which underlines the need to standardize measurement times in COP analysis. The results of this study aid scientists in implementing standardized methods, thereby easing comparisons across studies and enhancing the reliability and validity of research findings in veterinary medicine.

Objective: to contribute to the validation of the Early Childhood Oral Impact Scale (ECOHIS) by studying its psychometric properties when applied to a Portuguese preschool population. Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with children aged between three and five-years-old. The non-probabilistic sample included two preschools in the municipality of Lisbon. Children who agreed to participate and whose guardians signed the informed consent were included. Data collection included a questionnaire, administered to the parents, and an intraoral examination of the children. The questionnaire included the Portuguese version of ECOHIS. The intraoral examination included the caries diagnosis according to the World Health Organization criteria. Discriminant validity compared the ECOHIS score between children with and without caries experience (Mann-Whitney U-test). Cohen's d was calculated to estimate the magnitude of the difference. Reliability analysis included Cronbach's α and test-retest. Construct validity was analyzed by the correlation between the ECOHIS score and dmft (Spearman's correlation). A significance level of 5% was used. Results: The sample included 104 children (mean age 4.1 years). ECOHIS values were significantly different between children with and without caries (p=0.004). The Cohen's d was 0.84. The Cronbach's was 0.78, with no significant increase in value when eliminating any of the items. The test-retest showed significant correlation (r=0.76; p=0.01). There was a significant correlation between the ECOHIS score and caries experience (r=0.28; p=0.004). Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the ECOHIS showed good psychometric properties, indicating that it is a reliable and valid tool to measure the impact of oral health in preschool children.

Inter-reader reliability of a new scoring system for evaluating joint inflammation and enthesitis in whole body MRI (WBMRI) in juvenile idiopathic arthritis was tested. The scoring system grades 732 item-region combinations of bone marrow and soft tissue changes for commonly involved joints and entheseal sites. Five radiologists rated 17 WBMRI scans through an online rating platform. Item-wise reliability was calculated for 117 items with non-zero scores in >10 % of readings. Interquartile ranges of the five-reader Kappa reliability coefficients were 0.58-0.73 (range: 0.36-0.88) for the joints, 0.65-0.81 (range: 0.39-0.95) for the entheses, and 0.62-0.75 (range: 0.60-0.76) for chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis-like lesions.

BACKGROUND: The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has produced a minimal data set to promote more accurate and consistent reporting of clinical trials, facilitating easier comparison of research on low back pain patients worldwide. The NIH-minimal dataset has not been previously translated into Turkish, and its features are currently unknown. This study aimed to adapt the NIH-Minimal Data Set into Turkish and investigate its validity and reliability in Turkish-speaking patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). METHODS: In the study, 245 patients with CLBP were included. Test-retest and internal consistency analyzes were performed to evaluate the reliability of the NIH-minimal dataset. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC2,1) value was used to assess test-retest analysis. Cronbach's alpha value was calculated for internal consistency. Total impact scores of the NIH-minimal dataset were compared with total scores of the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) to assess construct validity. The minimal detectable change (MDC95) was calculated based on the standard error of measurement (SEM95). RESULTS: The NIH-Minimal Data Set was found to have high test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.928) and high internal consistency (Cronbach α = 0.905). The NIH-minimal dataset correlated well with RMDQ and ODI (r = 0.750 and 0.810, respectively). There were no floor or ceiling effects. Also, SEM95 and MDC95 for the total score were 4.57 and 12.55, respectively. CONCLUSION: Considering all these data, it was concluded that the Turkish version of the NIH-minimal dataset is a valid and reliable outcome measure for evaluating patients with CLBP.

BACKGROUND: Practical, applicable, valid, and reliable tools are needed to assess physical performance in patients with Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in a variety of settings, including routine clinical assessment, research studies, and community-based programs. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) among patients with TKA. METHODS: We included 45 patients who underwent TKA surgery (mean age 68.89 ± 9.26). The SPPB, Timed up and go (TUG) test and, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Knee Score were administered to the patients. SPPB was performed twice on the same day with 1 h rest. RESULTS: The ICC(2,1) coefficient, MDC95 and SEM values were 0.97, 1.02 and 0.37 respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient of the SPPB with the TUG and HSS was -.78, and 0.74 respectively. CONCLUSION: SPPB has excellent reliability, and strong validity in assessing physical performance in patients with TKA. SPPB can identify even minimal detectable difference in physical performance and can be reliably used to monitor patient outcomes in the postoperative period for a comprehensive assessment of TKA in many physical performance domains, including balance, walking speed, and lower extremity strength. BACKGROUND: The Quick Delay Questionnaire (QDQ) is a short questionnaire designed to assess delay-related difficulties in adults. This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the QDQ (C-QDQ) in Chinese adults, and explore the ecological characteristics of delay-related impulsivity in Chinese adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHODS: Data was collected from 302 adults, including ADHD (n = 209) and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 93). All participants completed the C-QDQ. The convergent validity, internal consistency, retest reliability and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the C-QDQ were analyzed. The correlations between C-QDQ and two laboratory measures of delay-related difficulties and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), the comparison of C-QDQ scores between ADHD subgroups and HCs were also analyzed. RESULTS: The Cronbach's α of C-QDQ was between 0.83 and 0.89. The intraclass correlation coefficient of C-QDQ was between 0.80 and 0.83. The results of CFA of C-QDQ favoured the original two-factor model (delay aversion and delay discounting). Significant positive associations were found between C-QDQ scores and BIS-11 total score and performance on the laboratory measure of delay-related difficulties. Participants with ADHD had higher C-QDQ scores than HCs, and female ADHD reported higher scores on delay discounting subscale than male. ADHD-combined type (ADHD-C) reported higher scores on delay aversion subscale than ADHD-inattention type (ADHD-I). CONCLUSION: The C-QDQ is a valid and reliable tool to measure delay-related responses that appears to have clinical utility. It can present the delay-related impulsivity of patients with ADHD. Compared to HCs, the level of reward-delay impulsivity was higher in ADHD.

BACKGROUND: A standardized national approach to routinely assessing palliative care patients helps improve patient outcomes. However, a quality improvement program-based on person centered outcomes within palliative care is lacking in Mainland China. The well-established Australian Palliative Care Outcome Collaboration (PCOC) national model improves palliative care quality. This study aimed to culturally adapt and validate three measures that form part of the PCOC program for palliative care clinical practice in China: The PCOC Symptom Assessment Scale (PCOC SAS), Palliative Care Problem Severity Scale (PCPSS), Palliative Care Phase. METHODS: A study was conducted on cross-cultural adaptation and validation of PCOC SAS, PCPSS and Palliative Care Phase, involving translation methods, cognitive interviewing, and psychometric testing through paired assessments. RESULTS: Cross-cultural adaptation highlighted the need to strengthen the link between the patient's care plan and the outcome measures to improve outcomes, and the concept of distress in PCOC SAS. Analysis of 368 paired assessments (n = 135 inpatients, 22 clinicians) demonstrated that the PCOC SAS and PCPSS had good and acceptable coherence (Cronbach's a = 0.85, 0.75 respectively). Palliative Care Phase detected patients' urgent needs. PCOC SAS and PCPSS showed fair discriminant and concurrent validity. Inter-rater reliability was fair for Palliative Care Phase (k = 0.31) and PCPSS (k = 0.23-0.30), except for PCPSS-pain, which was moderate (k = 0.53). CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of PCOC SAS, PCPSS, and Palliative Care Phase can be used to assess outcomes as part of routine clinical practice in Mainland China. Comprehensive clinical education regarding the assessment tools is necessary to help improve the inter-rater reliability.

Background Measuring the exact quantitative values of lordotic curves is a vital factor in clinical settings to prevent musculoskeletal deformities in the future. Existing lordotic assessment methods are very diverse, expensive, inaccurate, and not handy, and their availability cannot be maintained in every clinic setup. Aim The purpose of this research was to study the reliability of a mobile app as a feasible method to measure lumbar lordosis angle using a lateral view radiograph. Methodology A lateral view low back region radiograph of 58 participants was taken based on the criteria, and the experienced physiotherapists uploaded the X-ray to the mobile app and measured the lordotic angles with the support of machine learning algorithms. Descriptive statistics were used to calculate the average and dispersion of the data of the lumbar lordosis angle measured using the mobile app method (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp., Version 23, Armonk, NY)). Results Associations between and within raters were assessed using the Karl Pearson coefficient of correlation (1.000). Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability were determined by using Cronbach's alpha (.966) and the split-half method. The internal consistency of the mobile app was found to be good. Conclusions Based on our findings, we conclude that the mobile app method is reliable and useful in measuring lumbar lordosis objectively with less effort. Since the app is handy on smartphones, physiotherapists can conduct an objective lumbar lordosis assessment in clinical settings.

Background: The Swedish Universities Scales of Personality (SSP) is a personality measurement tool with a short test battery of high psychometric quality, previously not availiable in Japanese. Methods: We translated the SSP into Japanese and administered it to 103 Japanese nationals. For 11 of the 13 SSP scales in the Japanese version of the SSP (SSP-J11), the Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.50 to 0.82 with good internal scale reliability. Results: A principal factor analysis replicated the previous work by identifying the same three principal dimensions of Neuroticism, Aggression, and Extraversion factors. Conclusion: The resulting three-factor SSP-J11 shows acceptable reliability and should provide informative insights about personality traits in research and clinical practice in a Japanese context.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the construct validity (structural validity and hypothesis testing), reliability (test-retest reliability, measurement error and internal consistency) and minimal important change (MIC) of the 13-item TENDINopathy Severity assessment-Achilles (TENDINS-A). METHODS: Participants with Achilles pain completed an online survey including: demographics, TENDINS-A, Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) and Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A). Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) assessed dimensionality. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) assessed structural validity (root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA); Comparative Fit Index (CFI); Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI); standardised root measure square (SRMS)). Correlations between TENDINS-A and the FAOS or VISA-A assessed hypothesis testing. Intraclass correlation (ICC) assessed test-retest reliability. Cronbach's alpha assessed internal consistency. SE of the measurement (SEM) assessed measurement error. A distribution-based approach assessed MIC. RESULTS: 79 participants (51% female) with a mean (SD) age=42.6 (13.0) years, height=175.0 (11.7) cm and body mass=82.0 (19.1) kg were included. EFA identified three meaningful factors, proposed as pain, symptoms and function. The best model identified using CFA for TENDINS-A had structural validity (RMSEA=0.101, CFI=0.959, TLI=0.947, SRMS=0.068), which included three factors (pain, symptoms and function), but excluded three items from the original TENDINS-A. TENDINS-A exhibited moderate positive correlation with FAOS (r=0.598, p<0.001) and a moderate negative correlation with VISA-A (r=-0.639, p<0.001). Reliability of the TENDINS-A was excellent (ICC=0.930; Cronbach's α=0.808; SEM=6.54 units), with an MIC of 12 units. CONCLUSIONS: Our evaluation of the revised 10-item TENDINS-A determined it has construct validity and excellent reliability, compared with the VISA-A and FAOS which lack content and construct validity. The TENDINS-A is recommended as the preferred patient-reported outcome measure to assess disability in people with Achilles tendinopathy.

This study evaluates the performance of two major artificial intelligence-based tools (ChatGPT-4 and Google Bard) in debunking sleep-related myths. More in detail, the present research assessed 20 sleep misconceptions using a 5-point Likert scale for falseness and public health significance, comparing responses of artificial intelligence tools with expert opinions. The results indicated that Google Bard correctly identified 19 out of 20 statements as false (95.0% accuracy), not differing from ChatGPT-4 (85.0% accuracy, Fisher's exact test p = 0.615). Google Bard's ratings of the falseness of the sleep misconceptions averaged 4.25 ± 0.70, showing a moderately negative skewness (-0.42) and kurtosis (-0.83), and suggesting a distribution with fewer extreme values compared with ChatGPT-4. In assessing public health significance, Google Bard's mean score was 2.4 ± 0.80, with skewness and kurtosis of 0.36 and -0.07, respectively, indicating a more normal distribution compared with ChatGPT-4. The inter-rater agreement between Google Bard and sleep experts had an intra-class correlation coefficient of 0.58 for falseness and 0.69 for public health significance, showing moderate alignment (p = 0.065 and p = 0.014, respectively). Text-mining analysis revealed Google Bard's focus on practical advice, while ChatGPT-4 concentrated on theoretical aspects of sleep. The readability analysis suggested Google Bard's responses were more accessible, aligning with 8th-grade level material, versus ChatGPT-4's 12th-grade level complexity. The study demonstrates the potential of artificial intelligence in public health education, especially in sleep health, and underscores the importance of accurate, reliable artificial intelligence-generated information, calling for further collaboration between artificial intelligence developers, sleep health professionals and educators to enhance the effectiveness of sleep health promotion.

OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of this study was to assess the validity of the KPG index in predicting the difficulty of treatment involving impacted maxillary canines. The secondary objective was to assess the reliability and reproducibility of the index. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 96 maxillary impacted canines (MIC) in 60 patients aged 13-35 years. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were used to predict the treatment difficulty of MIC using the KPG index. Patient case files were assessed for the actual difficulty encountered in treating MIC. Cohen's kappa correlation coefficient was used for intra-observer reliability and Kendell's W test was used for inter-observer reliability. Spearman's correlation coefficient test was used to assess the correlation between predicted and actual treatment. RESULTS: Easy and moderately difficult cases exhibited a moderate correlation between actual and predicted treatment outcomes, whereas difficult cases displayed a weak correlation. The perfect correlation was observed exclusively in extremely difficult cases. The intra-observer reliability for assessing CBCT scans using the KPG guide was found to be 0.88, and the inter-rater reliability was 0.94. CONCLUSION: The KPG index displayed 87%, 71%, 50% and 100% validity in easy, moderately difficult, difficult, and extremely difficult cases, respectively. This index showed good reliability and reproducibility. However, it is imperative to consider a multitude of other factors, including the patient's age, presence of associated root resorption in adjacent teeth, and duration of treatment, to make an informed decision between surgical exposure and extraction.

Although considerable research has been devoted to improving safety in university laboratories, accidents, in that environment, have still occurred frequently at the cost of serious injury or even death of laboratory personnel. Currently, few Human Reliability Analyses (HRA) have been conducted with respect to a university laboratory. The aim of the research was to conduct a reliability study relating to human behaviour in a university laboratory to explore quantitatively the causes and influencing factors relating to the frequency of laboratory accidents. Improved Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM) and improved Standardized Plant Analysis Risk HRA (SPAR-H) were employed to assess Human Error Probability (HEP) of 23 subjects. The HEP calculated through improved CREAM proved more accurate than results obtained through improved SPAR-H. Unexpectedly, the results demonstrated that under similar environmental conditions, the HEP of subjects did not decrease with an increase in educational background, including additional experimental time and experience. Moreover, environmental conditions exerted greater impact on personnel reliability than Human Inherent Factors (HIFs) in laboratories. It is anticipated that the study would provide valuable insights, in respect of research methods, and to serve as a practical basis for lowering the accident rate in university laboratories.

Introduction: Various measurement methods and imaging technique are in use to measure patellar height in pediatric patients. However, there is no gold standard as to which measurement method and modality are the most reliable for pediatric patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the inter-observer reliability, intra-observer reliability, and applicability of various patellar height measurement methods in pediatric knee. Additionaly, we analyzed the reliability across different imaging modalities. Methods: Total 450 pediatric patients (age: 5-18 years) were evaluated using lateral knee radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The patellar height ratios were measured using five methods. Five methods were Insall-Salvati (IS), Koshino-Sugimoto (KS), Blackburne-Peel (BP), modified Insall-Salvati (MIS), and Caton-Deschamps (CD). The patients were categorized into two age groups: P (ages 5-13) and Q (ages 14-18). Each measurement was conducted twice by two raters. The intra-observer reliability, inter-observer reliability and inter-modality reliability were calculated. In addition, applicability was defined as the possibility to apply each measurement method to each age group. Results: The KS method showed the highest inter-observer reliability and intra-observer reliability when using MRI for both age groups. The inter-observer reliability and intra-observer reliability of the IS for lateral knee radiographs was highest among all observers for group Q. The CD method showed the highest inter-observer reliability in group P, while the KS showed the highest intra-observer reliability in group P using lateral radiographs. The KS method showed the highest inter-modality reliability in group P, while the IS showed the highest inter-modality reliability in group Q. The KS method was applicable to all patients when using lateral knee radiography, and the IS method was applicable to all patients when using MRI. Conclusions: Our results show that the reliability of various measurement method and imaging technique differed based on pediatric knee age group when measuring patellar height. Therefore, in the case of pediatric patients, reliability measurement methods and imaging techniques according to the patient's age should be applied.

Introduction: Students need to acquire high level self-regulatory skills if they are to be successful within higher education, and academics need support in facilitating this. In this article we explore how the current research gap between knowledge of self-regulatory assessment and feedback (SRAF) practices, and academics' professional training in it can be bridged. Methods: SRAF tools were used with academics to explore their understandings of and training needs in SRAF; central to this work was the development of a SRAF scale. We consider the value of such tools in supporting academics' professional development needs in SRAF. The reliability and validity of the SRAF scale was tested using exploratory factor analyses (EFA). Results: Iterative EFA resulted in a 17 item support required SRAF scale (SR). Two underpinning factors: Creating the Conditions for SRAF, and Supporting Students' SRAF Skills Development were identified. The reliability of the instrument supported its primary use as a tool to facilitate academics' professional development in fostering students' self-regulatory skills. Discussion: Our findings highlight the importance of supporting academics in developing strategies to maximize students' metacognitive skills and motivation in assessment and feedback, contingent on effective assessment design. Such professional development needs to be mindful of individual and contextual factors impacting academics' access to, and confidence and competence in, using SRAF in practice. This research is important in highlighting potential disconnects between where academics' focus their attention in assessment, and what is known to have most impact on student learning success. The SRAF tools have considerable potential in supporting translation of theory into practice as part of sustained professional development for academics in higher education.

BACKGROUND: Few gamified cognitive tasks are subjected to rigorous examination of psychometric properties, despite their use in experimental and clinical settings. Even small manipulations to cognitive tasks require extensive research to understand their effects. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate how game elements can affect the reliability of scores on a Stroop task. We specifically investigated performance consistency within and across sessions. METHODS: We created 2 versions of the Stroop task, with and without game elements, and then tested each task with participants at 2 time points. The gamified task used points and feedback as game elements. In this paper, we report on the reliability of the gamified Stroop task in terms of internal consistency and test-retest reliability, compared with the control task. We used a permutation approach to evaluate internal consistency. For test-retest reliability, we calculated the Pearson correlation and intraclass correlation coefficients between each time point. We also descriptively compared the reliability of scores on a trial-by-trial basis, considering the different trial types. RESULTS: At the first time point, the Stroop effect was reduced in the game condition, indicating an increase in performance. Participants in the game condition had faster reaction times (P=.005) and lower error rates (P=.04) than those in the basic task condition. Furthermore, the game condition led to higher measures of internal consistency at both time points for reaction times and error rates, which indicates a more consistent response pattern. For reaction time in the basic task condition, at time 1, rSpearman-Brown=0.78, 95% CI 0.64-0.89. At time 2, rSpearman-Brown=0.64, 95% CI 0.40-0.81. For reaction time, in the game condition, at time 1, rSpearman-Brown=0.83, 95% CI 0.71-0.91. At time 2, rSpearman-Brown=0.76, 95% CI 0.60-0.88. Similarly, for error rates in the basic task condition, at time 1, rSpearman-Brown=0.76, 95% CI 0.62-0.87. At time 2, rSpearman-Brown=0.74, 95% CI 0.58-0.86. For error rates in the game condition, at time 1, rSpearman-Brown=0.76, 95% CI 0.62-0.87. At time 2, rSpearman-Brown=0.74, 95% CI 0.58-0.86. Test-retest reliability analysis revealed a distinctive performance pattern depending on the trial type, which may be reflective of motivational differences between task versions. In short, especially in the incongruent trials where cognitive conflict occurs, performance in the game condition reaches peak consistency after 100 trials, whereas performance consistency drops after 50 trials for the basic version and only catches up to the game after 250 trials. CONCLUSIONS: Even subtle gamification can impact task performance albeit not only in terms of a direct difference in performance between conditions. People playing the game reach peak performance sooner, and their performance is more consistent within and across sessions. We advocate for a closer examination of the impact of game elements on performance.

Well-being is one of the central topics in psychology, and research on this topic has shifted from emotional experiences to flourishing life in recent years. Seligman's PERMA model is a prominent theory in this shift. However, this model is proposed in Western culture and has yet to be empirically validated in the Chinese context. The present research aims to examine the applicability of the five-dimension PERMA-Profiler in Chinese culture, which has been developed based on the PERMA model. A sample of 1468 Chinese adults participated in the research. After translation and validation, a series of psychometric analyses were conducted to examine the internal consistency reliability, construct validity, convergent and discriminant validity, and factorial invariance across genders. The PERMA-Profiler Chinese showed high Cronbach's alpha coefficients (α = 0.79-0.88), good divergent (r = -0.19 to -0.38) and convergent validity (r = 0.53-0.85), as well as satisfactory structural validity. Results of the structural validity demonstrated a better fit to the first-order model with five correlated factors after modification (χ2/df = 4.65, RMSEA = 0.058, SRMR = 0.030, CFI = 0.943, TLI = 0.924) than the second-order model with a higher-order factor of well-being. However, the engagement dimension of the PERMA-Profiler Chinese could be improved further. In conclusion, the PERMA model is applicable to the Chinese culture, and the PERMA-Profiler provides a valid measure of well-being for Chinese adults.

HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to compare inter-and intraobserver agreement of a novel intraoperative subluxation classification for patients undergoing ulnar nerve surgery at the elbow. We hypothesize there will be strong inter- and intraobserver agreement of the four-category classification system and reviewers will have substantial confidence while reviewing the classification system. METHODS: Four blinded fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeons reviewed 25 videos in total on two separate viewings, 21 days apart. Variables collected were ulnar subluxation classification (A, B, C or D) and a confidence metric. Subsequent to primary data collection, classification grading was stratified into A/B or C/D subgroups for further analysis. Cohen's kappa scores were used to evaluate all variables collected in this study. The interpretation of kappa scores included ≤0.0 as no agreement, 0.01-0.20 as none to slight, 0.21-0.40 as fair, 0.41-0.60 as moderate, 0.61-0.80 as substantial, and 0.81-1.0 as almost perfect agreement. RESULTS: Interobserver agreement of subluxation classification as a four-category scale demonstrated a moderate agreement on first viewing, second viewing, and when both viewings were combined (kappa=0.51, 0.51, and 0.51 respectively). Seventy-five percent (3 out of 4) of reviewers had moderate intraobserver agreement for ulnar nerve subluxation classification while one reviewer had substantial intraobserver classification (kappa= 0.72). Overall, there was high confidence in 65% of classification scores in the second round of viewing, which improved from 58% in the first viewing round. When ulnar subluxation classification selections were regrouped into classes A/B or C/D, 100% of reviewers had substantial interobserver (kappa=0.74 - 0.75) and substantial to almost perfect intraobserver (kappa=0.71 to 0.91) agreement. CONCLUSIONS: The four-category classification was reproducible within and between reviewers. Agreement appeared to increase when simplifying the classification to two categories, which may provide guidance to surgical decision making. The validation of a reproducible classification scheme for intraoperative ulnar subluxation may aid with decision making and further postoperative outcomes research.

Reliability of joint motion and muscle length measurement in children with cerebral palsy was examined. Twenty-one studies of intraobserver and/or interobserver reliability were reviewed: joint motion of upper extremities in four and lower extremities in 13; muscle length of upper extremities in one and lower extremities in 15. Intraclass correlation coefficients for goniometric interobserver reliability varied widely for joint motion (range 0.38-0.92) and muscle length (range 0.20-0.95). Inclusion of an error measurement to provide clinicians with a value indicating true change was limited. Further research is required to determine intraobserver and interobserver reliability for these important pediatric clinical measurements.
